The blast, which was said to be a landmine, reportedly took place inside a garage near the police station.
Government officials in the city confirmed that they were still investigating the incident.
A man named Said Jalbow, a well-known figure in Marka was killed in the blast.
The situation is now calm, and Somali security forces launched a probe.
