BAIDOA, Somalia — The commander of the Somali National Army, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Mohamed Mursal, held talks on Wednesday with the interim leader of South West State, Jabriil Abdirashid Haji, focusing on strengthening security in the regional capital, officials said.
The meeting in Baidoa centered on accelerating operations against militant groups and improving overall security in the city and surrounding areas of South West State.
Lt. Gen. Mursal said the Somali National Army remains committed to continuing operations against insurgent fighters, noting that sustained military campaigns are under way across parts of the region.
The army chief emphasized the importance of close coordination between federal forces and regional authorities to ensure lasting stability in South West State.
The discussions come as Somali security forces continue operations against Al-Shabaab in several regions of the country, as part of broader efforts to weaken the group’s presence and restore government control in rural areas.
