HUDUR, Somalia – The commander of the Somali National Army’s 9th Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel Yoonis Adan Hassan, led a security operation in the outskirts of Hudur town, the administrative capital of Bakool region, military officials said Wednesday.

The operation, described as “planned and targeted,” was conducted in several villages under the Hudur district, with a focus on the Ceel-Garas area.

According to officials, the area had recently seen the arrival of wounded Al-Shabaab fighters who had survived a fierce attack by government forces on the outskirts of the town the previous night.

“This mission was part of a broader effort to eliminate remaining elements of the Al-Shabaab terrorist group and to ensure lasting security in the region,” Lt. Col. Yoonis told reporters.

Troops conducted thorough searches in nearby areas to locate any hidden insurgents or sleeper cells, as part of ongoing counterterrorism operations across the region.

The Somali National Army, backed by local communities, has intensified its military campaign against Al-Shabaab in recent months, particularly in southern and central Somalia, where the group maintains a presence.
