Somali president, top EU diplomat discuss war on Al-Shabaab

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud today met with a delegation led by EU Special Envoy to the Horn of Africa Annette Weber in Mogadishu.

 

The two sides discussed the situation in the region and the role of the European Union in the development of Somalia, the fight against Al-Shabaab, and the rebuilding of the army.

“Annette Weber has confirmed the position of the European Union in maintaining stability and stability in the Horn of Africa, preserving the independence, sovereignty, and unity of Somalia,” according to a Villa Somalia statement seen by Shabelle Media Network.

The President thanked the European Union for its continued support to the Government and people of Somalia as they continue to make a full recovery from three decades of conflict.

“Somalia achieved a significant milestone in the state-building process and the EU remains committed to supporting the country,” said Annette Weber.

Weber is the highest-ranking EU official to visit Somalia since the collapse, demonstrating the Somali government’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties with the world.
