ARUSHA, Tanzania – Somalia has concluded its participation in the 20th Meeting of East African Community (EAC) Sectoral Council of Ministers responsible for infrastructure, where member states approved key regional projects aimed at improving connectivity and economic integration, the Somali government said on Saturday.

The meeting, held in the northern Tanzanian city of Arusha, brought together ministers and senior officials to review and endorse plans designed to strengthen regional infrastructure and boost cooperation among EAC member states.

Somalia was represented by a delegation from the Ministry of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing, led by State Minister Sa’id Xeyd. The delegation also included the ministry’s Director General, Farah Abdinur Ahmed, and the Director of Roads and Infrastructure, Mohamed Abdulkadir (Yariisow).

According to the ministry, participants approved a series of strategic infrastructure initiatives expected to enhance transport links, facilitate trade and support economic growth across the East African region.

The ministry said Somalia’s participation reflects the federal government’s commitment to deepening regional cooperation, advancing strategic development projects and taking advantage of economic opportunities within the East African Community.

Somalia formally joined the EAC in 2024 and has since been working to align its policies and institutions with those of the eight-member regional bloc as part of its broader integration efforts.
