MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has conducted a performance review of federal government ministries, assessing their progress against plans, commitments and targets set for the year, his office said.
The review examined work completed so far this year, challenges facing ministries, available opportunities and areas requiring changes or accelerated action, according to the government.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources was among the ministries assessed as part of the government’s broader accountability and performance-monitoring system.
The review focused on ensuring that ministry plans are implemented through clear performance indicators, accountability mechanisms and measurable results.
Prime Minister Hamza urged ministers, director generals and technical staff to accelerate government work and strengthen the delivery of public services.
He said the government’s performance-monitoring system would continue to be developed through a digital platform designed to facilitate the tracking of plans, measurement of results and assessment of ministry performance.
The digital system is intended to provide government institutions with a clearer way of monitoring progress and identifying areas where implementation is falling behind schedule.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said it was placing particular emphasis on planning, accountability and performance measurement to ensure that its programmes and projects produce tangible results consistent with the government’s priorities and the public interest.
The performance reviews are part of efforts by the federal government to strengthen institutional accountability and ensure that ministries deliver on commitments and development priorities.
