NEW YORK, September 20, 2023 – In a powerful address during a sideline UNGA (United Nations General Assembly) meeting on “What is Systems Transformation and How Do We Achieve It?”, organized by Cambridge University and Center for Education at Brookings Institute Minister Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir illuminated Somalia’s unwavering commitment to revamping its education system.

Minister Farah expressed that the Federal Government of Somalia has placed education at the zenith of its priorities. “Our vision is clear: to pave the path for a brighter future, we must invest in our most precious asset – our children,” said the Minister. His words echoed the sentiment that, for Somalia to truly transform and progress, education is the key catalyst.

One of the most notable commitments shared by Minister Farah was the ambitious plan to train three thousand teachers. By fortifying the foundation of quality educators, Somalia aims to elevate its education standards, ensuring students are provided with world-class learning experiences.

But the government’s pledge doesn’t stop there. Minister Abdulkadir emphasized that every child in Somalia deserves an education, and hence, the Federal Government is pushing forth initiatives to provide free education for all. This commitment, he believes, is a testament to the government’s belief in the transformative power of education and its potential to uplift communities and the nation as a whole.

The meeting’s theme of systems transformation was aptly addressed by Minister Abdulkadir. By revamping the education system, Somalia hopes to trigger a ripple effect that will spur positive change in various other sectors, from the economy to health and beyond.

International delegates and attendees of the UNGA sideline meeting commended Somalia’s proactive approach. Many recognized that such commitments when brought to fruition, can be game-changers in shaping a nation’s future.

As the session concluded, Minister Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir’s words resonated powerfully, serving as a beacon of hope for Somalia’s upcoming generations. Through education, Somalia envisions a transformed nation, with empowered individuals contributing actively to global progress and innovation.
