MOGADISHU, Somalia — Units from the 22nd Battalion of the 1st Division of the Somali National Army’s elite Gorgor Commandos have completed advanced military training in Türkiye, marking a key milestone in efforts to bolster the nation’s defense capabilities.
The graduation ceremony in Türkiye follows extensive training designed to upgrade the commando units’ tactical expertise and operational efficiency. The Gorgor Commandos play a central role in ongoing counter-terrorism operations against Al-Shabaab insurgents across Somalia.
The event underscores the strong defense partnership between Somalia and Türkiye, which focuses on training, equipping, and enhancing the overall operational readiness of the Somali Armed Forces.
