Somali military court slaps police with death sentence for civilian killing

MOGADISHU, Somalia – A Police officer was arrested for the murder of a civilian in Mogadishu, the Somalia capital, and faced first-degree charges at the military court.

 

Abdi Kafi Nor, the policeman has been convicted of killing Ali Abdi in the Moalim Nor neighborhood in Dharkenley district on 15th September this year, per the judges.

The police officer shot dead the civilian man in a shop owned by his mother using his AK47 entrusted to protect the people after an argument, according to eyewitnesses.

After a long investigation, the Prosecution Office of the Military Court requested to look into the case and it was approved on the 16th of this month by the relevant offices in Somalia.

The Military Court finally sentenced Abdi Kafi to death for the killing of the late Ali Abdi Ali as confirmed by Mohamed Abdi Mumin of the Court of First Instance of the Armed Forces.

The sentencing is part of the Somali government’s broader campaign to ensure justice and end impunity after more than three decades of lawlessness in the Horn of Africa country.
