Somali president expresses condolences over death of Namibian president

MOGADISHU, Somalia – President Hassan Sheikh has on behalf of the government and people of Somalia, extended deep condolences to the government and people of Namibia over the passing of President Hage Geingob.

 

The Namibian head of state passed away on February 4 at the age of 82.

In January, the presidential office reported that he was diagnosed with cancer.

Villa Somalia, the presidential palace issued a statement, in which the president said:

“I express my sincere condolences to the people and government of Namibia on the passing of H.E. Dr. Hage G. Geingob, the President of the Republic of Namibia”

Dr. Hage G. Geingob was a distinguished leader who devoted his life to the service of his people and was a respected voice on the African continent.

“During this difficult time, we stand in solidarity with his family and the Namibian people as they mourn the loss of a great leader,” he added.

Geingob has served as president since 2015 and was in his second term, before his death.
