The local residents and officials accused Somaliland troops of indiscriminately shelling civilian houses, hospitals and mosques, forcing some villagers to flee their neighborhoods.

The the mortars were coming from Goja-Adde base outside Las Anod amid growing calls for calm and weeks after separatist region’s government declared a unilateral ceasefire.

The details of the casualty figures as result of Today’s bombardment still remains unclear.

Somaliland soldiers are battling against SSC-Khatumo troops who are seeking reunion with Somalia and establish a Federal State for Sool, Sanaag and Cayn regions.

As many as 200 people have been killed and hundreds wounded since the Somaliland troops launched the attack on February 5 to retake the city, which is under SSC militia.

Somaliland captured the city from Puntland in 2007 and since then it became the epicenter of a unionist struggle that forced the regional troops to exit in early January 2023.
