Somali president meets with Somaliland leader in Djibouti

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The President of Somalia Hassa Sheikh met with the leader of Somaliland Muse Bihi in Djibouti today, reviving the negotiations between the two sides.

 

The President of Djibouti is mediating, and the meeting will discuss issues affecting the unity of Somalia and the resolution of Somaliland’s grievances, according to the reports.

The meeting comes as Somaliland was taken over from Lasanood this year, which was established in the SSC-Khatumo administration and recognized by the Somali government.

Somaliland claimed it had seceded from Somalia in 1991, but so far has not received any international recognition, and is considered a regional in the Horn of Africa country.
