MOGADISHU, April 10 — Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Friday received a high-level delegation from Turkey led by Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar at the presidential palace in the capital, officials said.

The meeting at Villa Somalia focused on strengthening strategic bilateral ties between Somalia and Turkey, with particular emphasis on cooperation in energy, natural resources and the blue economy.

Mohamud said energy cooperation between the two countries had reached a “historic stage” that both nations could take pride in, highlighting the arrival of the drilling vessel Cagri Bay as opening “a new golden chapter” in Somalia’s efforts to boost economic growth, create jobs and tap offshore and onshore natural resources.

Bayraktar thanked the Somali president and people for what he described as a warm reception, noting that the deployment of the vessel and the start of drilling activities reflected the tangible progress of energy partnership goals between Ankara and Mogadishu.
