MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somalia’s federal government has strongly condemned attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels on Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Saudi Arabia, which resulted in civilian deaths and injuries.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mogadishu described the attacks as a serious violation of international law and a direct threat to Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and regional security.

Somalia expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia, stressing that security in the Gulf and Red Sea regions was closely linked to Somalia’s own national security.

The government noted that Somalia, which has a coastline along the Red Sea region, has a direct interest in maintaining regional stability and protecting maritime and civilian infrastructure.

Mogadishu also called for an immediate halt to attacks targeting civilian infrastructure, emphasising the need to protect civilians and facilities used by the public.

The Somali government extended its condolences to the families of those killed in the attacks and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

The statement reaffirmed Somalia’s support for efforts to safeguard regional peace and security and prevent further attacks on civilian targets.
